In 1987, Jane Lao, along with her husband, began growing coffee at the Yirong Farm as one of the first in the Yunnan region. Today, more than 30 years later, their daughter Jean Luo is working with her mother, Jane, to take the next step forward and expand their business to include export. Jean's partner, Song, is also involved in managing the agronomy and operations of the farm.

The Yirong Farm is behind a lot of economic opportunities in the area. Not only the cultivation of coffee, but also its subsequent processing and transport created employment opportunities for many locals, who could afford their own house, car, or expand their family. Thus, the Yirong Farm is very important in the local community.

The Luo family is trying to grow coffee more ecologically, so instead of chemical fertilizers, they most often use classic compost. In addition, its location allows year-round irrigation by mountain streams. In addition to coffee, tea is also grown on the farm, which is typical for this region of China.
